Florida-Clinic-Manual-FocimeterA focimeter is a device used to determine the power of the lens. It is also known variously as a lensometer or vertometer. It can determine the spherical power, cylindrical power, axis, prism and the position of the optical centre of a lens. It is an instrument that is mainly used by optometrists or opticians to measure the back-vertex (or front-vertex) power of the eyeglasses and contact lenses.

Florida-Clinic-Autoefractor

Our autorefractor or automated refractor is a computer-controlled machine used during a computerized eye examination to provide an objective measurement of a person’s refractive error and a prescription for glasses or contact lenses. This is achieved by measuring how light is changed as it enters a person’s eye. The feedback received from the machines helps our consultants refine the prescription to one that provides the patient with the best comfortable vision.

Automated refraction is also useful when dealing with non-communicative patients such as young children or those with special needs.

Florida-A-Scan Biometer

A-Scan Ultrasound biometry, also referred to as A-Scan, utilizes an ultrasound device for diagnostic testing. This device can determine the length of the eye and can be useful in diagnosing common sight disorders. This machine is also useful in our pre-cataract surgery preparations as it helps us get the most accurate measurement of the Intraocular lens needed for our patients.

The pachymetry component is used to measure the thickness of the eye’s cornea. It is used to perform corneal pachymetry before refractive surgery, for Keratoconus screening, Cataract, LASIK, and LRI surgery. It is also useful in the diagnosis of patients suspected of developing glaucoma among other uses.

Florida-Clinic-Digital-Lensometer

Our lensmeter or lensometer is an instrument used to verify the prescription of a patient’s eyeglasses or spectacles. … It is commonly used before an eye examination to obtain the last prescription the patient was given.
